Fall Creek Sunrise : Prints Available
A stormy sunrise above Dolores Peak and the vast aspen groves of the Fall Creek valley near Telluride, Colorado - September.
With the autumn colors at their peak and fresh snow dusting the mountains, we spent the last two days driving around and camping out in the Telluride area. This is a great autumn for the aspens this year – the colors are brilliant and there are lots of oranges and reds mixed in. The cloudy/stormy/misty skies provided the perfect atmosphere and light for geeking out with the camera all day long, from dawn till dusk!

Beautiful!! Your photos could not have come at a better time for me… I’ll be out on Wilson Mesa starting Saturday and have been wondering what things look like. Looks like my SLR is going to get a workout!!
Have fun out there! The colors are amazing this year!
Beautiful work, Jack! I’ll be cruising northern New Mexico for fall color this weekend, and if conditions are half this good I’ll be happy.
Thanks Jackson! Have fun!!!
Great diversity and really beautiful stuff with timely snow and fog thrown in! Hope to see you and Claudia when we’re in the neighborhood.
Thanks Dave! Yeah, I was trying a lot of different stuff this time. I geeked out with lots of abstract macro closeup stuff, but most of it will probably just languish on my hard drive! Sure was fun though.
These pictures are simply brilliant, Jack! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your compliment, Niran! 🙂
Oh wow, Jack. These are spectacular! There’s no place else that says fall color like the San Juans (okay, with a few other spectacular places in UT and CO). Every year, I’m blown away by the sweeping vistas and intimate scenes in gold and how it turns out, neon orange. I hate to say this but “Oh Em Gee”. “Fall Creek Sunrise” and “Neon Red Aspens” speak the most to me from your diverse selection. One day…
Thanks David! Yes, autumn around here is pretty awesome. If my photos even convey a fraction of how it actually feels to walk through the aspen forests then I’m happy!
Fantastic images. I love the diversity of your shots. I was shooting around the Dallas Divide (very briefly) about the same time you were shooting these. I think SW Colorado had the best foliage in the state this year. One of these years I am coming to spend a good 2 weeks in the just the San Juans.
