I’ve been happy to be out riding powder the last four days here in the San Juans – with a full-on powder day at Telluride ski resort on Sunday, followed by three superb days of splitboarding up on the pass.
The skier above is Dan, a local Ouray ice farmer. All the rest of the photos below are Jake, who timed his trip from Vermont perfectly!
Below are a bunch of pictures from the last three days in the backcountry.
Looks awesome! So jealous you guys are getting it. No snow here for awhile. Heading to the beach this weekend where it will be pushing 80 degrees!
Yeah we’re FINALLY getting some good turns in! I hope the storms keep coming… Have fun at the beach, that sounds good too.
Jack,
With the great ski shots, are you bringing your whole set up or do you use a great point and shoot for those?
Looks so good down in the San Juans!
Chris
Hi Chris, for these ski photos I’m using a Panasonic GX1 with 20mm pancake lens. It’s small enough for me to carry on my chest and whip out quickly to shoot a bunch of frames in continuous mode as my friends ski past.
Great pictures Jack! Is the road between Ouray and Silverton the one that I can see in photo 7? Just trying to figure out where you ski, I was there last year (sadly… in june)
Thanks Daniele! Yes you’re right about the road. Last June was at the tail end of a really low snow season; usually there’s still quite a lot more snow around then!
thanks Jack! I’m looking forward to come back to ski in those wonderful mountains
