About Jack

Jack Brauer

You may have read the little bio on my gallery site, so instead of repeating all that, I’ll add some random thoughts here.

I live in the small mountain town of Ouray, Colorado. I moved here because of the mountains… the San Juans are some of my favorite mountains in the world, and Ouray is right in the heart of them. I backcountry snowboard (splitboard) a lot in the winter, and backpack in the wilderness during the summer. I am obsessed with photographing mountains.

I run my own business, WideRange Photo LLC. Half of the business is photography (mostly selling fine art prints through my website), and half is web development (I build websites for photographers). My clients and customers live all over the country and around the world.

I am a Leo, but don’t necessarily believe in astrology. I listen to lots of music, I cook a mean stir fry, and I often harvest icicles from my roof for mixed drinks. My refrigerator is full of film boxes, and my freezer is full of bushels of green chiles. I don’t own cable teevee, nor do any of my friends. I have two big plants which are slowly taking over my house.

I’m on Facebook, but I already spend too much time at the computer to get much into that.

I am a monthly supporter of the National Resource Defense Council (NRDC), Environment Colorado, and Greenpeace. I am also a member of the North American Nature Photographers Association (NANPA) and a regular contributor on NaturePhotographers.net.

I love shooting pool, playing chess, and racquetball. Sadly, there are no racquetball courts in Ouray County, and none of my friends play chess. There are a few pool tables though, so I’ve got that going for me.

I get heated about politics, but try my best to keep it off my websites. There are already plenty of websites that have all that covered.

I’ve been to Oslo, Istanbul, Berlin, Sarajevo, Amsterdam, Zagreb, Budapest, Santiago, and Buenos Aires to name a few, but I’ve never been to New York City. To be honest I’m not too terribly interested in cities, and usually find my way out to the mountains as soon as I figure out how.

Perhaps I’ll post some more random introspective thoughts here next time it’s late and I can’t go to sleep.

Feel free to email me if you have anything to say at all. I like getting emails. Except spam (I don’t need viagra quite yet).
